WBCHSE has completely revised the marks distribution and supplementary exam rules for Class 11 and 12 vocational subjects. WBCHSE (West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education) has officially announced that now the vocational subjects exams will be of a total of 100 marks, out of which 50 marks will be for theory and 50 marks for practicals. This semester-based marking system will provide a clear structure to students from Class 11 to 12.

Eligibility Criteria

These new rules apply to all students who choose vocational subjects under WBCHSE for Class 11 and 12. Also, the new rule for supplementary exams applies to Class 11 students from the academic year 2024-25 onwards.

Supplementary Exam Update

Earlier, only students who failed in Semester 1 got a chance to appear for the supplementary. But now, students who failed in Semester 2 can also appear for a supplementary exam within 1 month. If any student does not clear the supplementary, he/she will have to repeat the entire academic year.

This rule is also applicable retrospectively to 2025 Semester 2 students. Schools have been told to implement this immediately as a special case.

Vocational Subjects Still Out from Best-of-Five

One drawback is that vocational subjects are still not counted in the Best-of-Five aggregate, which could result in a lower overall percentage of students even if they have performed well in vocational subjects.

Final Syllabus Is Still Pending

The wait for the new syllabus and textbooks is still on. Until WBCHSE officially releases it, schools and students will face some delay in planning.
